Beware of Fake HIBLOW Repair Kits!

linear air pump

Have you seen HIBLOW repair kits on Amazon or Ebay recently?

Are you sure they're genuine?

For over a year, we've been getting reports of counterfeit repair kits being sold on the internet. Some of our customers have been fooled, and we want to make sure you don't waste your money!

Unauthorized repair parts in a HIBLOW linear air pump will void your warranty, and will ultimately cause you more issues with your pump than you started with.

Read more about how to spot fakes on our website, and how you can help us get these counterfeit products off the market!

HIBLOW is happy to announce we’re exhibiting at the Water Garden Expo March 1-3 in Shawnee, OK!

The Water Garden Expo is the industry’s premier educational event. Come experience THREE packed days that will make you and your business more profitable. More info about the show, lodging, and the seminars available here: https://www.wgexpo.com

We have manufactured air pumps for the pond and aquatic industries for over 30 years. We know that reliability, energy efficiency, and low sound levels are all extremely important for your aquatic systems. Our pumps provide aeration and water circulation for water gardens, koi ponds, backyard/ farm ponds, aquaculture, hydroponics, and aquaponics.

Learn more here.

Benefits of subsurface aeration:
  • Helps keep the water clear of algae and other organic matter
  • Promotes healthy oxygen levels for fish growth and sustainability
  • Helps evenly distribute oxygen and water temperature
  • Creates a hole in the ice in the winter which allows toxic gases to release preventing fish kill
Come see us at the expo to learn more! We hope to see you there!

Aeration for Deep Water Culture (DWC)

linear diaphragm air pump
DWC – used by hobbyists, homeowners, and large commercial operations (FRT systems) alike – is one of the easiest yet most effective methods of hydroponics.  Roots are suspended and submerged in water 100% of the time.  Plants require oxygen for respiration.  While they do get some through leaves, most of the oxygen is consumed through the root system.  Therefore, without sufficient levels of oxygen in the water, the plant roots will drown and rot away.

Adding an aeration system to the DWC system is essential.  Diffused aeration will enhance dissolved oxygen (DO) levels allowing for plant respiration while preventing the growth of pathogens.  The aeration process also circulates water evenly distributing the nutrient enriched solution.

Diffused Aeration Systems:

Diffused aeration systems include an air pump (sits outside of the water), airline, and diffusers (s) that sit at the bottom of the tank.  Fine bubble diffusers (typically 0.5- 3 mm bubbles) are recommended as they produce the most air bubbles and thus the most surface area on the bubbles for oxygen to transfer into the water.  For more information on diffusers, check out the following article: (add our article)

There are many types and sizes of air pumps.  Lesser duty aquarium style aerators can be used for small applications.  For larger scale at home systems with several tanks or for commercial FRT systems, a heavy-duty pump is often needed.  One of the most popular styles is the linear diaphragm air pump.

Linear diaphragm air pumps have been used for hydroponics for years.  The design is built for 24/7, 365-day use and is lubrication and oil free.  The pumps are energy efficient running on less electricity than an incandescent light bulb.  Perhaps the greatest advantage of a quality linear diaphragm pump is that it is very quiet compared to most rotary style aerators.

HIBLOW Advantage:

HIBLOW invented the linear diaphragm air pump back in 1968 and is the gold standard.  Most models run on 70 watts or less with a noise level below 40 dBa.  HIBLOW pumps use only a few moving parts and therefore can be easily rebuilt in 20 minutes or less.  With 2 rebuilds, the aerators can continuously run for up to 10-15 years (depending on the system pressure and model size).  HIBLOW offers 3 different series (WG, XP, HP) with flow rates ranging from 20LPM up to 200 LPM.

Air Pumps for Hydroponics

linear diaphragm air pump
What is hydroponics?

Hydroponics is the technique of growing plants in nutrient enriched water instead of soil.  The nutrient solution (includes such minerals as phosphorous, magnesium, nitrogen, and potassium) is recirculated in a closed loop system.

What are the benefits of hydroponics?

  • High yield: hydroponics yields more calories per square foot.  Plants can be placed closer together allowing for more plants or a smaller growing area
  • Since hydroponics systems can be installed indoors, plants can grow in any climate throughout all seasons
  • Hydroponics uses 90-95% less water than traditional farming methods because there is little evaporation and water is re-circulated in a closed loop system
  • Vegetables tend to grow 25-50% faster than in conventional farming methods.  Plants grow up faster because there is less of a root system
  • Hydroponics does not rely on pesticides and is environmentally friendly
  • There are no weeds, less pests, and less disease than conventional farming

How Pond Aeration Can Protect Your Dock from Ice Damage

pond aeration
For lake or pond owners in colder climates, keeping your boat and dock in the water during the winter is an appealing option.  However, when water freezes, it's a force to be reckoned with.

Below we touch on why ice can be destructive to your dock, boat, or boathouse and de-icing options and methods for mitigating the risk.

Water column composition and temperature in the winter:

When water temperature decreases it becomes denser (heavier) until it reaches 39 degrees Fahrenheit.  The colder denser water falls to the bottom and the slightly warmer less dense water moves towards the surface.  39 degrees is the point where it completely flips.  From 39 degrees to 32 degrees the water quickly becomes less dense, and cooler water rises towards the surface while warmer water falls to the bottom.  At 32 degrees water density is at its lowest creating the perfect conditions to freeze, which of course is what happens at the surface.

Why ice is destructive:

As ice expands it encroaches the pilings of a dock, a boat, or a boathouse, essentially squeezing them.  Mass destruction comes from what professionals’ call “ice jacking”.  Ice jacking occurs when water levels rise and fall usually from rainfall or changes in tide.  When ice forms around a structure at a high-water level, it stays at that height while the water level lowers, creating a gap.  When the water level rises again and freezes at the surface, the new ice level pushes upward “jacking” the initial surface level ice higher.  Because the top-level surface ice is already “squeezing” the structure, with multiple cycles, the ice jacking can lift a piling from its foundation, even breaking it in half.  The result can be a collapsed dock, damage to the foundation of a boathouse, or damage to a boat or lift.
